Journalism and journalistic standards reforms are crucial to our future, as much of the information about our world outside of the classroom comes from the news media. Mass media around the world is always composed of several main outlets in each country, meaning they have a majority over the flow of journalistic information that gets published or broadcast to the public, and can heavily influence public opinion.
We also live in an age where mass media outlets who are already established can post defamatory comments discrediting independent news agencies as “fake news”, simply because they have the money to hire experts who can throw around falsified statistics and know how to talk the talk of their various fields, and the independent news agencies only have their sources, research and promise to keep an honest word. Independent news agencies also often do not have access to the same sources as mass media outlets do, mostly due to their anonymity and with the additional glamour or recognition a source could get from speaking to a reporter from a major outlet instead of a minor one.
